AUDITIONS

Auditions are normally held at the Mary Wallace Theatre on a Monday evening starting at 8.00pm and approximately 10 to 12 weeks ahead of performance. Auditions are only open to full Members of the RSS.

If interested you need to contact us and arrange for an audition notice to be sent to you by the Director concerned giving you the roles and their respective audition pieces. You do not need to learn your audition piece (because you can carry the book) but it must be prepared.

Immediately after the audition the play is cast by the Committee and the Director - anxious auditionees may soothe their nerves at the Foyer Bar!

SOCIAL

Richmond Shakespeare Society at the Mary Wallace Theatre has an extensive social side centred on the Member's Bar and Coffee Servery.

We have a party at Christmas and sometimes on New Year's Eve, and in the Summer we may have a barbecue or a similar festivity.

The Bar is open to Full Members on Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes and at any time that the theatre is open. Audience Members may of course use the bar when attending performances.

Throughout the Season a number of informal Monday Night events are held in the theatre Foyer. These include play and poetry readings and can be proposed, organised, and directed by any Full Member using any text and a cast of their choice. Entrance is free - but it is restricted to Full Members.

For enquiries regarding Membership call 020 8940 1606, or you can E-mail the Membership Secretary.

Delights that were
19 June - "A Pound a Poem"
This famous and ever-popular evening will have taken place by the time you receive - do come in future!
Delights to come
24 Ju;y - "A Blind Bit of Difference"
From what I read in last month’s Rumour this evening of original work from and by Liam O’Carroll looks like being very exciting and amusing. Can’t wait!
Future Delights
There will be no Members’ Monday in August due to the gloriously hot and sunny summer break (if you are not rehearsing!). On October 2nd we are to start the Autumn session with an evening by the Play Selection Committee fleshing out next year’s programme. Then on November 6th a very special musical treat arranged by David Duff. The final meeting of the year will be provided by the evergreen David King on 27 November.
Shortage of Delights
As always there is still room for more ideas please feel free to discuss!

WHO ARE WE?

The Richmond Shakespeare Society is a highly-respected amateur dramatic society with a Membership from a wide area. Founded in 1934 to perform Shakespeare's plays annually in the open air, we have grown to have a programme of eight productions a year by vastly differing playwrights of all eras, from ancient Greece to the modern day. We have our own theatre (which is extremely well-equipped), the Mary Wallace Theatre by the riverside in Twickenham.

We are always very happy to welcome new Members, both those who will become involved in our activities and those who simply wish to enjoy our performances.

For those interested in taking part in the work of the Theatre, experience is not essential - we will teach you all you need to know to become a valuable member of our team in whatever area of expertise attracts you.

COME AND MEET US IN 2006!

We are always happy to welcome visitors to our theatre, so if you want to learn more about the Richmond Shakespeare Society, please come along to The Mary Wallace Theatre.

Open Evening dates and times will be announced, on such dates you can come any time between 8pm and 10pm for a guided tour and the opportunity to meet a number of our Members and see some of the work of the Theatre.

Don't wait; just come down on a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime and ask to be shown around. There will always be someone ready to chat to you.

HISTORY

The Mary Wallace Theatre is named in affectionate memory of a previous Secretary whose bequest in 1977 made possible the first positive steps towards our acquisition of a permanent home. Much of the work in converting a derelict mission hall into a welcoming theatre club and well-equipped theatre was done by the Members themselves.

Since it opened in 1981, the theatre has gained a unique place in Twickenham's community life. Her legacy, with further help from the Borough of Richmond-Upon-Thames Council and many other benefactors, provided the core of funding for the theatre project.

The Richmond Shakespeare Society is Registered Charity No.276271 and is a Member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain.
