"In conflict with government, torn with internal dissensions on matters of doctrine and practice, the
Church of England finds itself enjoying unwelcome publicity ..."; thus ran part of the Sunday Times critique of
Racing Demon in 1990.
This compelling play by David Hare is as relevant today as it was then. It examines the tensions and difficulties of four
clergymen to make sense of their mission in South London. It does so with humour and a deep understanding of the frailty of
human nature.
Like all the best plays, it asks questions which not only transcend the circumstances of the plot but linger in the
mind.
